Workshops
To educate and empower the community about housing, city planning, and narrative change, [people. power. media] designs and facilitates personalized workshops. We do these for nonprofit and community groups so that they can better advocate for themselves, their neighbors, and their neighborhoods.
Our Approach
[people. power media] uses a popular education approach to our workshops. Popular education is rooted in the idea that we are all both teachers and students, and that there is just as much to learn, if not more, from peoples’ experiences than from formal education. How land is used affects everyone’s daily lives, including where and what type of housing you live in, how much it costs, how many parks and small businesses are in your neighborhood, and where jobs are located. Land use is complicated, but can be easily understood.
A core part of our approach is narrative change, which means changing the overarching stories that shape how we view the world. When it comes to land use, the stories that dominate mainstream media and therefore our general culture usually stem from real estate lobbyists. We show you how you can cut through their propaganda and get your message out clearly and effectively.
Our workshops are designed to meet your goals and to empower you to take action in your community for lasting change.
